COVID Burnout — We’re Still in Weird Times
This week marks a year since COVID lockdown began here in Connecticut — when we all thought we’d get a relaxed two weeks to finish that book or pick up a new hobby.
Now, a year later — I know I’m not unique in saying that I’m sick of COVID.
Life feels like it’s slowly returning to a semblance of normal, but it also feels like we’ve been saying that every couple of months.
Trying to stay hopeful is getting harder each day, and we’re all burned out. But with my commute non-existent, extra time on my hands, and taking the same amount of time off, I’ve wondered why I feel so burnt out. Even on the weekend — at the end of each day, I end up feeling completely exhausted.
What I’ve figured out recently is that this endless monotony and stillness of the pandemic has introduced a new kind of burnout into our lives. Let’s call it monotony burnout.
We wake up to the same routine and don’t get as much movement as we used to.
So while it’s a bit of work to find activities that are COVID-safe, I’m dedicated to introducing novelty back into my life. Taking those weekend trips to the coffee shop or a new spot with my wife, or simply getting out for a bit of sun or a walk each day.
